As a musician doing the Pimsleur method, I am realizing the most natural way to learn a language is to listen and practice speaking.
  • App keeps crashing

I downloaded this to learn Spanish because I live in a community with a large Hispanic population and would like to be able to converse with other people. I am very motivated and already set reminders in my schedule to do lessons daily. I’ve done one lesson so far (yesterday). Today, I attempted to do lesson 2, and the app keeps crashing. I start the lesson, get three seconds in and it crashes. I have tried this 7 times, and even restarted my phone. I opened several other apps on my phone to see if it is just my phone malfunctioning, and they are all functioning normally. I did not pay for the subscription to not be able to use it on the go, as it is advertised. Please fix this ASAP.

  • Vietnamese subscription?

I was excited to use this app to learn Vietnamese on my daily commute, however it appears there is no option for Vietnamese for the $14.95 monthly subscription offer. This was very disappointing as I put a lot of time into researching and trying out different language learning apps, and was excited to begin the process with Pimsleur.

Way better than the free apps!! Definitely worth it!! Love that it’s not a year contract. I will continue to keep this bill of $20. After our Brazil trip, I will choose another language for our next trip! All about the immersion and fun!!

So far I really like working with the Pimsleur app. I am doing Spanish 1. On the website it states Spanish (Latin American) but it does seem to be somewhat more Spanish from Spain then truly Latin American. As as example, I think for emphasis has been placed on usted rather than tú. But this is a minor issue right now. My bigger complaint is that their app doesn’t rotate to landscape mode on iPad. It makes sense to say in Portrait mode on the iPhone but on the iPad with an attached keyboard, you’d want to be able to do the exercises with the screen elevated like a desktop. How difficult can it be to support screen rotation on an iPad when so many other applications do it.
  • It works !

This is exactly what I was looking for. I can learn while I’m driving! This app makes you really speak while learning! 30 minutes a day is also manageable and motivating
  • Great for absolute beginners, nothing more

This program was fantastic for me in the beginning as a first time Japanese learner. Units 1-2 were full of useful words and phrases. But as time went on and I used other methods of learning along with this program it became clear how useless most of the information is past the beginner stage. It barely touches on informal speech in the final unit and teaches extremely useless small talk. They waste time on things like “Brown bears and rare birds” or “This is one of the three great night views in Japan”. When is this ever going to be useful? Final complaint, as far as I understand from native speakers Pimsleur also teaches an entirely wrong way to speak and order at restaurants. And the verbiage they use may even come across as rude. TL;DR - Only use the Japanese program If you’re an absolute beginner, don’t waste your time and money beyond unit 3. The most useful word I learned beyond unit 3 was the word for trash can.
  • Great!!!

So far so good. I’m actually learning a language. It feels weird to say I’m learning without being sarcastic. But I know more than I did yesterday or the day before. 10/10 would recommend.
