Built using feedback from education experts and our customers, the Practice Pack program includes 5 Pre-reader, and 12 Learn to Read packs that include workbooks, stickers, storybooks, and in the first Pre-reader pack, flashcards that are sent to the home, monthly. Users can customize how often they receive these shipments through their account dashboard to tailor the pacing to each family’s needs. Created in conjunction with the App, the Practice Packs allow children to engage in different modalities of learning, review the skills they’ve gained in the App, and practice hands-on skills—like writing and tracing—that can’t be mastered in a digital setting. The result is an immersive program of learning experiences that keeps kids highly engaged in learning to read.

  • Awesome program!

My 5 year old granddaughter began this night and didn’t want to put it down! I can’t wait to hear her read!!!
  • New update to the app

    By Pendawife
It’s hard to follow. One of my children was doing better on the other version. This one is hard to use for her and it’s frustrating. Plus the other version followed the regular books where this one does not. I wouldn’t keep this app if my children didn’t try so hard. Please reconsider this new version.
  • Progress no longer saves

    By DustinMonke
There was an app update and now my kids progress doesn’t save.
  • App not nearly as good as printed materials

We have been using the hooked on phonics books for almost a year and have had great success with them. I decided to try the app and my son hates it. It’s slow, it’s frustrating to figure out, it doesn’t save his progress so he has to start all over every time he opens the app. And I’m also not sure how it relates to the practice packs which we get in the mail. They do not seem match what we are learning on paper. App is too easy and books are much harder. We will find another way to learn to read.
  • Update: It’s even better!

06/30/2020, update: It’s working! Not only that, but it’s actually loading faster than it did before all the problems. I’m so glad to be able to use this on our iPad again. I’m still not crazy about the new format, but the kids enjoy it, and that’s more important because it keeps them wanting to come back and do more work. I really appreciate all the effort the developers put into resolving this issue. Great work, guys! And a special thanks to Jamie L. with subscriber support for handling handling all the complaints without losing their cool. —— 06/23/2020, update: The app is still not working, but I’m in communication with support, and they are making a genuine effort to resolve the issue. If they reach out to you, definitely respond. The more info they have to work with, the easier it will be to find a solution. FWIW, they seem to be just as frustrated as we are. The desktop version is functioning for us, so if you’re able to try that, at least you can keep working while they’re trying to fix things. —— I loved the original format with kids 3 and 4. I wasn’t crazy about the new format for #5 and 6, but the kids didn’t have a problem with it. But then the app stopped working. Nothing will load, and I can’t download anything. I contacted customer support and was told they’re aware of the problem and are working on it, but that was weeks ago. They should have either fixed it by now or let people know what’s going on. Very disappointing from what I thought was a great company.
  • Terrible

It won’t even load this is day #2 of trying. And to think this is going to be paid for monthly... I think not.! I want a refund and I would never recommend getting this app.
  • Won’t load

    By Lady.Krystal89
The app won’t even load the very first lesson. I’ve installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled 3 times and I can’t get it to go past 33% on the first lesson. Very disappointed considering my daughter is really struggling at the moment.
  • Reading

My child is really learning to read. She notice her site words in the book already. Combined with the app is amazing! She will be ready when she goes to kindergarten. Thank you!
  • Pretty funny how you demand payment method but your app freezes at the opening screen.

Your company is probably predatory, I unsubscribed immediately.
  • Just not working

    By Engshrew
UPDATE: After following the developer’s recommendation to run the new update, the app still would only load to 20% and then freeze. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and now it’s working which, I don’t have to tell you is a very hopeful sign. My daughter and I haven’t yet delved very far into the app, so I don’t have any insight to offer on the app itself. For now, we’re just excited that the app is loading! ORIGINAL REVIEW: I’m pretty disappointed with my Hooked on Phonics experience. None of the lessons will load past 40%. I’ve called and emailed customer service many, many times, and while the representatives are very kind, I can’t help but feel like I’m getting the run around. I keep getting told to either wait and see what happens, to update my version (not an option available to me), or to wait because a new update is coming. It’s been nearly a week. I’m happy to continue waiting for access I guess, but I just wish someone would inform us, the subscribers, about the situation. I hope this turns around. I really want my daughter to benefit from what is supposed to be an amazing program. Fingers crossed that I’ll be able to come back to this review with good news and a successful experience.
